How to look after your hair in the heat

How to look after your hair in the heat

When it comes to summer, all we think about is basking in the sun.

Frolicking in the sand, having a dip in the sea and embracing our bikini bods.

Bliss.

We know how to look after our skin in the heat, but what about our hair?

If you have dry, coloured or textured hair, it’s important to know how to protect it when you’re in and out of the heat.

We’ve gathered a list of products and accessories you can use  to keep your hair looking super sleek all year round.

Here’s how to BOSS your hair care routine this summer

Be prepared

UV sprays

UV protection isn’t just for your face.

UV rays can be really damaging for your hair, especially if you colour it or if it’s on the dry side already. They can dull the sparkle and make it brittle - which nobody wants.

By spritzing your hair with a protective spray every few hours, you can keep your hair looking FAB-U-LOUS.

Silk hair accessories

If you’re a Damn Gina fan, you’ll already know about all the benefits silk has on our hair.

It prevents frizz, maintains shine and looks super cute.

Using silk hair accessories is a great way to keep your hair out of your face when you’re making the most of the summer.

Impress your friends this year with our range of silk scrunchies.

This way you can rock your favourite lipgloss without risking a ‘hair stuck to the mouth’ situation.

Hats

Looking after your hair in the sun doesn’t have to be boring.

Hats are a great way to protect your hair against those pesky sun rays.

Say goodbye to hat hair and a sweaty scalp and say hello to protected hair.

Treat yourself to a Damn Gina silk-lined bucket hat this year.

They’re silk-lined so keep your head cool, even in peak temperatures. So after a long day at the beach, you can go straight to the club and you don’t have to worry about matted ends or oily roots.

SPF needs to go everywhere...YES EVERYWHERE

There’s nothing worse than matted, sand-covered hair. Which is why, when you’re heading to the beach, it’s time to put your hair up.

Using protective hairstyles like braids is a great way to look fierce, and keep your hair out of your face at the same time.

Although they look great, they create partings and expose your scalp to the sun.

If you’ve ever had a burnt scalp, you’ll understand the pain.

To stop this from happening, all you need to do is pop some SPF into those areas and don’t forget the backs of your ears and neck.

This can be whatever you use on the rest of your body, or one especially for hair, so it doesn’t change how it looks or behaves.

Apply regularly for the best results.

But what about aftercare?

We’ve all had an incident where we’ve fallen asleep in the sun and woke up with a strange tan line or random burnt bit.

This can also happen to our hair.

It can be dry and brittle after hours of baking in the heat.

Here are a few tips on how to bring your hair back to life.

Use hair masks and treatments

Nothing does the job quite like an intense hair mask.

It nourishes, smooths and de-frizzes.

By using something thick and moisturising after a day of fun in the sun, you can welcome back your swishy, shiny locks.

A lot of leave-in treatments also contain UVA protection.

In combination with a protective spray, you can keep your hair looking fresher than ever.

Silk, silk and more silk

If your hair’s really been through it, silk is your best friend.

It’s cooling on any burnt patches and protects your hair from any further damage.

By using our silk hair wrap overnight, you can maintain your hair without having to apply an endless amount of product.

Use every night by twisting the hair into the turban to maintain volume and your curl pattern.
